Dr. Chickaballapur R. Jayachandra was born in Karnataka State, India
on November 21, 1928. After qualifying as a doctor with M.B.B.S.
degree from Mysore University, he came to Great Britain in 1955 for
further training. He was appointed Consultant Paediatrician in the
National Health Service at Oldham, Greater Manchester, in 1968. He
fully retired in 1993. He is married to Sujaya and lives in the UK.
As a psychologically-oriented general paediatrician he has been very
distressed by deteriorating mental welfare of children as shown by
increasing incidence of psychosomatic illnesses, depression, many
forms of anti-social disorders and violence committed by children in
their own homes, schools and neighbourhoods.
In wider society, there is escalation in the breakdown of human
dignity, social responsibilities and relationships; there is
acceleration of violence, fraud and numerous other forms of crime in all
social strata, throughout the world, more ominously in the so-called
"Advanced Nations" of the west.
He believes that children – the foundation of adult society – are being
severely damaged emotionally. Consequently, adult society – the
supra-structure – is cracking and crumbling all over the world.
Human beings are in conflict with each other almost from the day
they are born! There have been no rational and meaningful
principles to refer to, in order to prevent, or to resolve, these
problems early, before they got out of control!
Dr. Jayachandra analyses briefly the reasons for numerous forms of
human abuses engulfing the human race, and offers some simple, but
radical and rational, solutions to these problems, in the long term.
